| Leigh Centurions wish to make supporters aware of the security measures in place at Leigh Sports Village for the 2016 season.
Explaining the background and decision making behind this initiative, Stuart Knowles, Safety & Security Officer, Leigh Sports Village Co Ltd said: “Crowded places such as sports stadia remain an attractive target for terrorists, as was seen to be the case late last year in Paris.
“Where there is an increased threat of terrorism, most people not only accept searching at stadia but expect to be searched, instilling the confidence that the event is held within a safe environment and therefore allowing them to have an enjoyable experience.
“After obtaining advice from Greater Manchester Police, to increase the security of match days, overt searches, such as bags and personal searches will take place to detect any prevent any prohibited articles from entering the stadium and to provide a visual deterrent.
“This searching is conducted under the authority of the Leigh Sports Village Ground Regulations and will apply to staff, partners, visitors and spectators. Any refusal will cause the person not to be admitted into the stadium.
“I am sure you will understand the necessity for these increased security measures and look forward to your co-operation in this matter.”
On behalf of Leigh Centurions, CEO Allan Rowley said: “The Club fully supports its stadium partners in this initiative and we wish to make all supporters aware of the security measures in place ahead of Sunday’s eagerly awaited ‘Battle of the Borough’ against our friends from Wigan Warriors and all future games.
“We are sure that all supporters will understand the need for these measures to be implemented and are confident that they will co-operate fully in this regard.”

| Only thing the LSV could do in the present climate. If it means that flasks and Tupperware boxes with butties in them are now to be banned then they had better say so in very large black and white letters on all social media now as this could cause a lot of problems on match days. They should also brief the security personel that RL fans are not hooligans and should not be tarred with the same brush as other sports fans. A little friendly banter is all we ask.

| I didn't make any comparison in my post about that. I merely asked not to be treated like they do at football stadia. There have been numerous posts on here about people's treatment at the LSV. Like I said at the start of my post searches are a must in the present climate.

Why? What are you expecting they will find? It's just an inconvenience to the fans so that jobsworths can justify their existence.

| In the current climate, we can't argue with these measures. However, there needs to be a clear message, a.s.a.p. on what constitutes "prohibited articles."
This should then pre-empt the confiscation of items such as kids' drinks, flasks of tea, etc. (plus prawn butties from inhabitants of the West Stand! )

Prohibited items must include big red noses, revolving bow ties, squirting yellow daffodils and oversize shoes.
Know what I'm getting at.
To be honest I think searching Rugby League fans is unnecessary. Terrorism at a Rugby League game? Crickey no disrespect intended to our wonderful sport but why queue up for a £20 ticket to detonate a device which effects

| Which effects a small proportion of the populous.
Far more convenient places for these cowards to make a point.
Hooliganism, again having visited all of the grounds in our competition I have never seen anything mildly approaching this, a bit of handbags yes.
Far be it from me to suggest that this is over the top and if the powers that be deem it necessary then so be it.
I will happily attend the LVS this season search or no search.
Just my thoughts, don't wish to minimise present day problems or upset anyone.
