Today, I received a phone call off a St Helens supporter gleefully bragging about 'the new chant'. Apparently it goes something like 'it's always your year' or something. Could someone explain to me please.



I quizzed the person on the phone and they assured me it wasn't about winning trophies (Something Saints haven't done in 3 years- while Warrington are 3 in 3 in that respect) or winning Grand Finals (something Saints haven't done in almost 6 years)



So I was wondering, what is it?



It may be '[our year' to beat Saints but we did that last year. Or it could be 'our year' to reach a Grand final; but why would Saints applaud 5 years of failure. I'm so confused.

Its also a dig at the pundits,Eddy and Stevo most of all who tip Warrington to win the grand final and talk them up all year and constantly wax lyrical over the team.How many times last year did he say " is this the year they get to Old Trafford ? "

They are fools and I don't appreciate them tipping us.

To be fair to them given the squad and the coach you have then your allways going to have the favourites tag,but you know how the pair of them are and it just sets things up to have the mickey taken.

I think some Saints fans may think it is still 2007 (or 2008 at a push)

To be honest, that chant is just as embarrassing as some of our fans debating a massive 'decline' because they'd been beat in Grand Finals. I know there's no prize for second, but Saints are still a fantastic side and a fantastic club.



I imagine they're singing the song because, over the past ten years or so, we've always improved our side over the winter, then got our hopes up for the season, then haven't won the Grand Final. Sadly, the GF seems to be deemed the biggest achievement when it clearly isn't; there is no bigger challenge than winning something over the course of twenty seven games in rugby league.
