| Watched Hunslet a few times this year and think he's a solid player, but SL standard? Not 100% convinced at this stage. I suspect the two years is to give him time to adjust to full-time training regime etc., progress his development and gradually blood him into the first team. Well done to him and good luck to the lad!

That doesn't surprise me.
I apologise in advance to those that refuse to accept anything can be wrong at Leeds, but at this stage I see this signing as something of a publicity statement for Hetherington to prove everything is good about dual registration, and nothing more. He appears to be in a very small minority in the game at the moment who believe dual registration is great, and as the man who pushed it from the start he really want's to make it work. I think a signing from Hunslet was always going to be on the cards.
Hopefully the lad will prove it does work, and he isn't just a pawn in a game.

| I wish the lad well and hope it comes off but saying that is he any better than Dan Smith who imo we should have kept and possibly set up a loan IF we thought he wasn't quite ready??

| Good luck to him, I don't see how he's a better option than Dan Smith would've been or a better option than retaining Baldwinson. But, he's so lets see if he can turn out to be another Chris Hill.

| Never seen him play. Welcome to the club Andy!
At risk of being branded as a blinkered Hethringtonite, I'll see how he goes before passing judgement.

Mr Hetherington doesn't strike me as the sort of person to make a signing just to prove a point about dual-reg (unless it comes gratis, that is) ... he does strike me as the sort of person who sees dual-reg as useful to his purpose and is using it to make a signing.

Do you think he's ahead of the game or simply got it wrong?

Many in the game believe he has it wrong. I am not making a judgement, as it needs time to see longer term. I do however think that the concept will work, but not how Leeds are doing it.
But I do believe this signing is purely to try and make a statement that it is right. He has nothing to lose from it. It is already stated the lad will still be playing for Hunslet. In my own opinion I don't think we will ever see him in a Rhinos shirt in a competitive fixture.

I must admit that I'm a bit baffled as to why Hetherington's so much behind it. I can see that it might save money in the short term but to me it seems to be gambling on the future successes of a much smaller pool of young players than previously. If this assessment is correct, it's not hard to see how we might end up incurring higher costs while at the same time jeopardising the future success of the team.
