To be honest, I always have the feeling that the bulk of our support (the people who have no idea this forum even exists, let alone contribute) seem to be largely ambivalent about where the club is/isn't going.
They turn up, pay their money, they cheer when we win and they slink away despondent when we lose.
If we take the Agar issue as an example. On here, the merest mention of his name is guarenteed to ignite a heated argument (as you and I both know) with the same people putting forward the same views week after week after week.
Yet, within the ground itself, amongst the 12000+ who faithfully turn up, Agar is neither lauded nor vilified, just an almost unthinking acknowledgment that he's here (neither loved nor loathed).
In the 3 years in which he has been head coach, I cannot recall a single moment when the crowd rose to chant his name, even when reaching Wembley in 2008. By the same token, when it was going badly wrong in 2009, there was never any mass cries of "Agar out, Agar out".
Our crowd in general just seem to go with the flow (hooray when we win, shrug of the shoulders when we lose).

I agree, my thoughts on this are simple, people enjoy going to watch RL, most have worked all week and see it as an oppportunity to spend time with family/friends, enjoy a pint etc. The majority are not interested in getting so involved (as on this board) it is just another aspect of their weekly lifes/routines, they know the highs (Cardiff) and the lows (2008/9) so they go and hope their team can win, remember the crowd last year at the Saints comeback game it was electric fans swarmed out of the KC feeling high and no doubt felt good for a day or 2, that is simply what it means to fans and why they carry on coming week in week out they may get that fantastic high again. Agar is just another coach he may win some-thing he may not at the end of the day others will come and go, some if lucky will go down in folklore.

| Quote Kosh="Kosh"I believe that many on here have their timescale wrong, and your post is an example. We're part way through a major team rebuilding exercise and regardless of who we bring in at this stage (if anyone) we'll struggle to improve on our finishing position last season IMO. The team rebuild won't be 'complete' until the 2012 season - and that's the point at which I will become disappointed if we're not challenging the top 4 positions.'"
I expect an improvement year on year. If we're only 'competing for top 6' next year, I'll be disappointed. 5th would be the absolute minimum I'd be happy with.
Quote Kosh="Kosh"This season I'll be looking for evidence that Agar can get the best out of the players we have available - something he has not done consistently to date. '"
He hasn't. In fact, in the games where it's really mattered we've been quite poor. It's all well and good turning out a committed performance against Wire when we've got half a dozen injuries and aren't expected to win, but it means nothing if we then play like amateurs in a play-off game against our local rivals. I've seen nothing so far in Agar's tenure to suggest that consistent performances are likely to be around the corner.
Quote Kosh="Kosh"If we finish in a similar league position but with major improvements in the basics and in those areas that have been lacking for years then I'll be reasonably happy. If, however, we scrape a similar finishing position without any improvement on last season then it'll be time for Agar to go.'"
If there are 'major improvements in the basics and in those areas we have been lacking for years', we shouldn't be finishing in a similar league position. Whilst a more entertaining brand of rugby would be very welcome, I'd still be disappointed with a 6th place finish.

| The crux of our problems is simple, we dont score enough points.
Under Sharp and then under Agar our points 'for' total has gradually gone down.
in 04 under Mcrae we scored 843 points!! this has gradually gone down year on year to a measly 502 in 09 with a slight improvement last season of 569.
Until we can get a fully fit half back combination or sign some more players who can create more opportunities then i cannot see things improving an awfull lot under RA.
I expext to finish around 7th or 8th with current squad and coach,

This is an incredibly patronising view. So they don't care? Does this include the "huge" away support that, in itself, far outnumbers the number of contributers to this forum?

If you can predict that Long would have a freak injury like a dislocated elbow then please please predict the lottery numbers for me.
If you dont believe that spending a lot of the salary cap on two half backs does not affect the way you play then you must be watching another game to me.
Bear in mind we have a salary cap and cannot bring in new players when the existing ones get injured that means either trying out a rookie or putting an experienced player into the position that he maybe not best suited to like Washbrook or Berrigan.

When Long was signed Horne already had a history of injuries and already had diabetes.

I predicted long would get injured and miss a chunk of the season. He got 3 injuries and missed half the season
Quote cofr_rockin_robin="cofr_rockin_robin"If you dont believe that spending a lot of the salary cap on two half backs does not affect the way you play then you must be watching another game to me.'"
I don't really understand what you're trying to say there. Yes, I think that a fair chunk of salary cap should be spent on half backs who will, hopefully play together more than 5 times in a season. The fact that 50% of horne's salary is exempt from the cap probably means we're underspending on our half back combo compared to other teams
Quote cofr_rockin_robin="cofr_rockin_robin"Bear in mind we have a salary cap and cannot bring in new players when the existing ones get injured that means either trying out a rookie or putting an experienced player into the position that he maybe not best suited to like Washbrook or Berrigan.'"
Or maybe just don't sign players with poor injury records in the first place
