Just to get back on topic, how does a council go about finding £35M worth of funding, were Leeds city council just the negotiators or have they pumped money in? How much money I wonder (if any) has come from the Cricket governing body? Central funding, Sport England (are they still going), lottery?

According to the report Leeds City council brokered the £35 million deal with a private finance services group, whoever they may be, it does not state.

I honestly think that one way we would stand a chance of pushing the stadium further is by having arts & gallery space, and the rugby league museum (supposed to be in Bradford) built into the stadium design. This would also open up additional funding streams.

I agree, i think we need to start fundraising and getting the message out. We need something to sell though, something along the line of stadium bricks should we have a contributors wall.



It could be;

£10 - name on a supporters board - similar to what HKR have done for their ST holders this year

£50 - a named brick in the new stadium

£100 - a named brick and a Trust T-Shirt

£200 - a named brick and a signed team shirt

£500 - named brick and a 25% reduction on season ticket price

£1000 - named brick, signed shirt and 1 free season ticket

£10,000 - a block of 100 seats named in your honour + freebies

£250,000 - a stand named in your honour + freebies

Your suggestion is ok but SWAG is totally the wrong vehicle for fund raising - I'd say the Supporters Trust is much better placed to carry out such a task though I may be wrong on that.

Not for a while - the last thing I went to in Wakey was the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show at Unity; and I'm off to see John Cooper Clarke in May. But if there are events I want to see in Wakey, I'll definitely turn out - as I'm sure would others.



For a small stadium type venue, I'd suggest there's a whole circuit that may not appeal to me, but would to plenty of others; as well as all the other non-gig stuff you can stage in a venue of that type.



All of which is academic of course - unless WMDC perform a massive U-turn.

Supporters Trust would probably be a better mechanism I agree. My only concern would be that any money raised would need to go towards a stadium for the City of Wakefield and not into the club. I think there's plenty that we could do to raise money, a sportsmen's dinners, buy a brick, legends matches, corporate sponsorship etc. All good ideas Banjo!

Your vision is very small. Belle vue or a stadium in Wakefield would generate massive interest apart from the hardcore nobody really wants to visit a run down dump belle vue. With better establishments in the city that are now there a new ground would be fantastic and would create more and more visitors that would visit the city. Even concerts at a new ground would generate interest.

Belle Vue MAY bring income to Wakefield IF a whole stadium is built and IF contracts can be placed for events and IF people attend.

Anyone on here mates of The Cribs? Could they be pursuaded to hold a summer "charity" concert at Belle Vue? They're a very popular local indie band from Netherton who sell out huge stadiums and have a star on the Wakefield "Walk of Fame" Say 10,000 punters at £20 quid a ticket plus bar takings, food etc etc.

I love The Cribs but they don't play huge stadiums at all. I'm seeing them on tour next month and most of the shows are in places with about 2/3k capacity.

Skinny Living are also a popular Wakefield based band, there's a link to Trinity too as their lead singer is married to one of the Kelly's daughters

But we'll never know until we try. If you want a case study look at unity hall. I accept it's slightly different but the premise is the same, a group of people banding together and grafting to save something they are passionate about.

No, if we could get this going it would be really good for the city.



We have the Warehouse and Unity but theyre not massive venues.



Some cities have several venues of varying sizes.



If it happened and the profile was raised acts from from beyond Wakefield could play.



Chris Evans and Chris Moyles, both Radio DJs and interest in rugby league could also help raise the profile of the stadium when they interview musicians

Steve Lamaq always has good things to say about Wakefield when he talks music/arts.
