| Why not two stripes, a bit of a compromise, Adidas couldn't claim copyright infringement then.

| You know today I thought, great team effort, good financial idea to have the £2 pint to get the fans in from the Con club but this shirt is a bad idea. It looks nothing like the 83/4 shirt Lewis wore and I found it a bit silly and irritating to suggest it did.

| Quote financialtimes="financialtimes"Can't believe what I'm reading here, this clearly isn't a "replica" shirt and is not being marketed as a "replica" shirt, it is a "retro" shirt and for me is exactly what "retro" is, much the same as the new mini/fiat 500/vow beetle, they don't look the same as the original, they are a modern day version of a classic, this shirt is a "retro" version of the 80's Classic shirt, with a modern twist on it. I'll be getting one and I bet I'll be as happy as wally looks wearing his
'"
Retro or replica..playing with words? This ias avery bad idea. This shirt and period in out hsitroy is crystal clear to all long term supporters and it probably isn't meant to but does look a bit like we are being treated like mugs I'm afraid. I suspect that isn't actually the case but it is another example of the amateurism of what goes on at Belle Vue sometimes. For goodness sakes. I'm not in marketing but I could have told you this was a bad idea unless you could get adidas on board with it

Like I mentioned before, from the looks of it, isn't the picture posted by Avenger have a replica top on the left with 2 stripes and no badges, surely that's the way to get around any copyright issues.

| Maybe once the restrictive Macron deal has expired (end of this season?) MC will have a bit more wiggle room to offer what the fans want?
As it stands, there's probably only a tiny fraction of potential buyers of this shirt who would forensically examine it in contrast to the King Wally shirt, most of them resident on here. I'd be inclined to give the club a break on this one and either buy one, or don't - rather than giving it big licks about what a slap in the face it is.

Are you referring to me here? if you are, I haven't said anything against the club have I, just whoever designed it, which is Macron, who can't have seen the original. Personally speaking I'm just disappointed that it's not more like the original because like I said I'd have bought one, since it was the first shirt I remember as a kid. I was also interested in the picture that got posted and where that replica came from. Hardly giving it the 'big licks' is it and I'm not sure there's any need for that comment tbh.

No, not specifically - just a general comment that those people who feel personally offended by the lack of verisimilitude of this offering in comparison with the original, might want to consider the bigger picture; I'm sure MC made clear late last year that his hands are tied for another season by a restrictive deal with Macron, as that was the only way he could wriggle out of the mess he was left with by the Elston/Glover administration.
I love the idea of a faithful (cotton) reproduction of that shirt - it was the first one I wore too and I'd buy it in a heartbeat; for now though, it's this one or the nylon jobbie, so I'll go for this one as a stopgap.

| The people who will buy the shirt would be those who remember the Wally Lewis era. It is not difficult to produce a shirt that at least resembles one we have worn in the past. I read it described as a retro shirt which it is with the use of cotton but a replica no.
I ask the question again why can't they at least produce something that those of us who watched Wally Lewis play resemble and yes I am having a go at the club because this is not difficult.

It's hard to disagree with this.
Although the new "retro" shirt is ok and ticks most of the boxes, it doesn't actually look like a Wakefield shirt.
It's as though someone pressed the wrong button when the design was put through.
Bren is right about nobody being forced to buy it BUT, if they had got the thing something close to the shirt from the "Lewis era", many of the older fans (and probably some young 'uns) would have been queuing up to buy them.
Maybe next season ??
