Can't remember Murphy ever not playing when fit so I don't know how Kear could have "stuck with him" any more than he did! Scott Grix will always be an average utility player regardless of who's shirt he's got on his back.
Whether a move to Shudds will give Murphy anything more than a couple of seasons of higher pay and a signing on fee, who knows? Greg McNally and Josh Griffin didn't exactly get much else. Maybe all three are satisfied with that?
