| Remember how bad our defence was prior to Smith arriving. Smith had a massive impact, teams scored tries for fun down that side before he was in the team. Mistake playing him in the play off game against Leeds as he had a slight hamstring pull from the previous week. Cowling should have played.

| i have two issues with this thread....
1) going by the twitter banter between the players, smith is going nowhere. and he is enjoying been a bit bigger than cockayne.
2) if you watch the play off game, smith was not to blame for all the breaks down that side. i actually think that sykes missed more tackles.
please bring on the next thread about tim smith signing for hull.........

I think he can improve from where he currently is, he just needs games. Something he wasn't going to get at Leeds as he was behind Webb & Hardaker at full back, Hall, BJB & Hardaker for wing, & Watkins, Ablett & Hardaker at centre.
He isn't going to suddenly morph into a world-beater but can be a perfectly good three-quarter. And obviously is a very useful cover for full back, centre, wing even hooker.

| with hardaker counting as one and webb gone that leaves 5 players for 5 positions so id have thought at the time leeds let him go they needed cover in their threequarters but hey if your happy with a player who couldnt at the finish get into their reserveswho am i to complain i bet the loiners were rubbing their hands then they heard we were intrested

| What the hell has Lee Smith done wrong? So he's a bit overweight and christ he has a pint. He should be flogged to death!
Get off his back for heavens sake - he played as well as anyone in that run of 7 victories.Let's judge him after the off season, when I'm sure RA will be looking for a certain level of fitness from ALL his players.
Who's next to be rubbished!

Don't be daft. Leeds didn't need cover in the three quarters that's why we let him go and of course he played in the reserves. If Smith had been happy to only play 1st team when 2 or 3 of Leeds three quarters were injured then I'm sure he'd still be at Leeds, he quite rightly wants and needs to be playing regular 1st team rugby. He's a perfectly good player, not outstanding as he's lost his pace, but still perfectly good and very useful to cover a lot of positions to a decent standard.
As I said, if Leeds didn't have such an abundance of quality three quarters then he'd still be at Leeds, probably at full back.

| I think we're very fortunate to have a players of Lee Smith's quality. It wasn't too long ago he was awarded Man of the Match in the Grand Final, and I'm sure that ability hasn't just disappeared. One thing we all agreed on from the first game last year was the side looked fitter than ever, and with a full pre-season in the same environment, I reckon Lee Smith will turn out to be a very important player for the club.
