| McCarthy is a good player he couldn't commit to full time SL for a few years as he wanted to finish his sports degree at Edge Hill (he got a 2:1) he's played 8 SL games for Warrington (4 - 2009, 3 - 2010, 1 - 2011) and the Challenge Cup final in 2009.
Been going well for Leigh last year and again this year on dual registration as well as sometimes playing U20's for us, he scored 2 tries for Leigh yesterday as well. Glad that he's going to get some SL level experience though.

| Quote bazzo44="bazzo44"Well every body i talk to can not understand the reason Ben is not playing, dont you think the lad will get better with more game time.'"
No. Doesn't work that way with forwards and he is a very young one. He needs to be eased into an experienced side not one full of kids not much older than he is. A lot of people think players are ready but only the coach is in a position to decide.
Problem with Erics posts regarding this subject is that I get the impression that he's got more than a passing interest. I've never met a dad or an uncle or whoever who doesn't reckon there lad is the real deal and ready for action. They may be right but I'm not convinced it's based on logic and thankfully they don't pick the team. So forgive me but I'd rather follow my own instinct on this and I don't think he's ready regardless of Erics slightly churlish remark.
That said if you are asking why Gledhill or Anakin didn't get the nod before Vievers, god only knows because one of them clearly should have. That though is a tactical issue and had King been available he'd have walked it in front of all three, because at the stage all three are desperation selections in a team that already has too many young inexperienced players.
If Paul Johnson was Jamie Peacock and Frankie Mariano was Paul Sculthorpe then yes give Gledhill a go every now and then but they are not. I think it would ruin the lad and I don't think he would be the only one heading that way if we are not carefull.

| Higgins will add much needed size and weight to the front row I totally agree with vastman ref Gledhill he is going to be a decent prop but he's not ready
On another note could Finn at fev do us a job at scrum half I know he was not ready back in 2003/4 but I think he is worth a shout

| Quote vastman="vastman"Gledhill isn't ready IMHO. Apart from his debut game he has struggled. I think he is still a bit raw boned for now and needs a stone in weight adding. He will be a good one I'm sure but I don't think he offers that much just yet.'"
Agree completely - looked and absolte belter in his first game, with me and my mates wondering how the hell he had been let go.
Think he has made a rod for his own back by setting the bar so high on his debut and ever since this game he hasn't lived up to those standards. Take the debut away and you have a fairly average youngster, who we need to be careful with and not over expose if we want the best chance of turning him into a good pro in a year or 2.

Fair enough.
There is nothing I want more than Gledhill or George or any of them to make it. However I believe you have to be exceptional to break the team as a prop before you are 22-23, especially (and this is my big worry) the team you play for is not a winning one.
The problem we have is that we have a team of extremes. A handfull of players who are 30ish and a shed load under 23 and absolutely nothing in between. That is so unbalanced it's not true and to be fair on JK it really narrows his options player wise.
Now Fergy has gone the only player we have who is at his peak so to speak is Henderson, bless him. Most of our players have not got 20 SL games under their belts so are both too young and too inexperienced. Sadly for Gledhill he is hunting a space in a team with too many players like him or slightly ahead. Sorry for the lad but we don't need another we need some experience, men not boys, they don't have to be superstars just committed and experienced.
Gledhills chance will come, cream always rises to the top.
