Pleased for him. Stuck in an unpleasant situation not of his making and has conducted himself impeccably throughout. Glad he got a medal as that might calm things down now.

| Apparently Team GB has won more Golds in 2012 than in 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 combined.

| These success of these games has exceded even the most optamistic predictions. I went to a couple of events and the organisation was superb, from the free transport to the venues, the voulenteers who were every where, the security was massive all itmes including bags, wallets, phones cameras etc..were checked and searched before entering the venue but the police and army were respectiful of their guests unlike at other events were you are virtually treated as sheep. To top it all, a record breaking performance form the British Athelets who have had their most successful games for over 100 years. A fantastic once in a lifetime experience.

| So Lord Coe has been put in charge of sport with regard to the post Olympics legacy.
That is a damn good call IMHO as is a confirmation that the lottery funding will stay at current levels right up until Rio 2016 which is 2 more years than previously promised.
I am/was worried that the momentum leading up too and including London 2012 would be lost just as it was for the Aussies after Sydney which would be a travasty.
My opinion is that having more kids in sport help with the nations health long term, helps with giving them an aim instead of getting into trouble.
Plus more bodies taking part leads to a better chance of you finding a champion and watching winners helps with the nations morale.

| Anyone who thinks that the GB atheletes can match the 2012 performance of almost 30 Gold Medals in Rio is deluded, there is always a drop off for the host nation at the following games, a return of around 20 golds should be the target for 2016. Hoprfully if the funding stays at the current level that will be achieved.

That wasn't what I said.
It is obvious that we won't hit the numbers we have hit this time around but hitting the numbers that we hit in Bejing as you say should be the aim long term.
Going back to the previous figures pre Bejing would be such a missed opertunity.

| At the start of the games i thought we'd do well to get 12 golds, fearing the weight of public expectation would effect Team G.B, while it effected our swimmers the rest have rose to the occasion brilliantly
Im going to miss the feel good factor when its done....i will be on a bit of a downer next week i fear

Good post.
My worry is that we'll hear all sorts of bandwagon bleating from Cameron et al, promising/saying we need more competitive sports and better facilities etc etc. yet at the end of it all, when everything has cooled off and the games are just a memory, Cameron will still be looking after himself and his cronies and the super-rich. It really makes me sick.
