IIRC - Many clubs boards went into spasms of delight when this incident happened, much more than what we've seen on here, so let's get things into perspective please:

Unfortunately perspective is hard to come by for the anti-wigan brigade

| Call me an idiot all you want I've not said anything different to what Phil Clarke said on national TV.
The rugby gods finally caught up with Briers last night.
Again wonder how much of the Wire 'moral compass brigade' on here would pipe up if it was Ryan Bailey and not a Warrington legend?
Also didn't see much sympathy on here for Lee Smith last week.

| Clarkey made a good point that a ref can sin bin someone and the judiciary panel look at the incident retrospectively and ban the player. That should help a ref to diffuse a heated situation. But we would like to see this applied consistently, saying that the Briers tackle was a straight red so maybe if refs use the sin bin approach we may see less red cards. Question is do we ever see that many reds?
99% of bans come from behind closed doors not from a decision on the pitch. We all remember the disgraceful tackle on Ryan Hall in the 4 nations by Thurston, we have the video technology, should we have a panel in the stands to make a red card decision? It works for American football, they have a belief that everyone should go home from a match knowing all the right decisions were made and that the outcome resulted from the better side winning.

| That's all good and well. But IMO people won't go home knowing the best side won until something is done about forward passes. It's meant to be a rule but the amount of tries I've seen awarded despite forward passes is laughable, and that's just since the start of the season.
I don't have an answer to this, but I do think it's a problem. The only thing I can think of is if it was reviewable by the video ref. IMO from a high up position it is possible to see if a pass has gone forward.
To be more related to this thread, the tackle last night was a shocker and deserved a red. And no I wasn't glad to see it. Briers is one of the best players in SL, I wouldn't want to see him injured, even if it might make Wire more beatable.

Its always been around and is nothing new. Bet many fans rejoiced when Sonny Nickle got based or Leeds fans liked it when Skerret got it also.
For me its the players that bring it upon themselves. I never want to see a honest good pro get injured but some players simply don't deserve sympathy.
Lee Smith taunted the Wigan crowd two seasons ago after his last min try. He almost had to pay for a ticket he was that far into the stand. He follows it up with late challenges and sky digs in most games.
Don't expect sympathy to be shown for players like that who simply don't deserve it.

| Compare Moz's hit on Hansen, that's what fans want, hard legal hits, that take the wind out of players but ultimately they get up from and all is well with the world, we don't want illegal forearms or elbows or chicken wings and cannonballs. We don't want players suffering serious long term damage not even if their name is Ryan Bailey.

In fairness Lee Smith's injury was from a perfectly legal hit, and as such is exactly what fans want to see, provided the injury is not serious.
Most fans want to see other players get hurt, and those that say they don't are probably lying. If it's from a legal challenge (and not done accidentally) and the injury isn't serious then it's brilliant.

| By injured, i mean as others probably do, minor and temporary. Stuff that takes them out the game for about 20 mins, a good winding being my favourite. Breaks and twists though i wouldn't wish on any player.

I agree. Another example being the classic bone-cruncher that Leulaui gave Maurie Faasavalu, I could watch that over and over again on Youtube.

I think out of the game for that match is the limit. Wishing anything after that is making it personal. When a player goes for the big hit the aim should be to hit the player so hard that he can't continue for the rest of the game.

| Quote Chief Stinkwort="Chief Stinkwort"It seems to me that wishing injury on or rejoicing in injury to opposition players is becoming something of a theme over here.
Shame really. Ruins some good discussion.
Not that your mods would do anything about it. They're appear to be more concerned with making snide remarks about opposition fans before promptly locking threads in case anyone replies. Talk about cheap and cowardly!'"
The thing that seems to be ruining good discussions at the moment is bellyaching about things that have nothing to do with the thread. I mean you wouldn't allow threads on the Leeds board to be a whingeathon about what you don't like about this board would you? Oops my mistake, it seems the thread about you winning the WCC has turned into a whingeathon about this board - I've lost count how many that is.
If you have a problem with this board perhaps you should actually do as you said you would do........
Quote Chief Stinkwort="Chief Stinkwort"I have now taken the sergeant's advice and banned myself from their board.'"
That didn't last very long did it?
Please don't derail the thread again, thanks.
