Only just got home, but watching it live I thought that David Hodgson knocked on near his line from a kick when Sam was then adjudged to have knocked on while scoring.
Yet again, surely this should have been a Wigan scrum 10 metres out - first offence Hodgson knock on.
Sam never had control of the ball, so no advantage had accrued.
Game changing moment, as instead of Wigan attacking scrum Huddersfield had the scrum and went upfield and scored their 1st try.
Similar to Cup QF against Leeds when Ganson awarded a Leeds scrum after Lee Smith had knocked on from a high kick. Sam knocked on while trying to score, but no advantage had accrued.
Ironically, 10 minutes later Bentham brought the game back for a Wigan scrum, even though Riddell kicked the ball forward more than 10 metres after a Huddersfield knock on but a Huddersfield player regathered.
Where is the consistency?

Now seen it on Sky - a 50/50 fumble, but they normally get judged to be a knock on - unless it's a VR with Wigan attacking on the oppositiion line! |

Having watched again on TV, he was onside.
That Brett Hodgson one from the kick was definitely a knock-on though, no way did it go backwards. |

It's happened many times... a few years ago, the try that basically denied us our place in the playoffs didn't receive any replays, I was SURE there was a knock-on. Sure enough, in the Rugby League World after that match, there was a photo printed... of the player in question losing the ball over the line.
Last year vs Saints, Gidley scored a "try", not a single replay, and I'm sure he didn't ground the ball. Unable to say for certain thanks to the lack of replay.
Tonight, for the chip-over try by Cudjoe, I thought he was offside, waited for the replay to prove/disprove otherwise, the replays shown were all BUT the one that would have shown (and since there's the between the posts camera that had been used earlier, unless it had suddenly broken, they didn't show the view).
But then there's something like Milennium Tragic against the Bulls where they took great delight in pointing out the huge offside error.
It makes me wonder sometimes...'"
I know what you mean, the first thing the sky team usually discuss of a kick try is onside/offside and it is strange that they didn't. However he was onside so it doesn't really matter. |
