| It was 100% defo a Milward signing.
I remember at the time how Millward was boasting of his NRL connections via his dad.
The one good thing to come out of the Millward era IMO.

I said the other week that if anyone is going to win the MoS ahead of Lockers he would have to be playing superbly. The Postman is certainly running Lockers very close and in the last few weeks Pat's form has been nothing short of sensational. The good news for us is that we have two players who are performing at the very highest level week in, week out. Madge must be delighted with the way they are both going this season.

| Quote DaveO="DaveO"Millward had nowt to do with it IMO. Mo signed Richards and Millward played him at centre nearly ruining him. Everyone knows I don't rate Noble but credit where it's due, he switched Pat to the wing and he hasn't looked back since. I think he has improved further this season under the MM regime as well.
I thought it would be a long time before we had a overseas wing legend to rival Dallas but Richards is already right up there.
Dave'"
Well done on your post where everything is wrong. He was a Millward signing and also the reason he was playing in the centre's was due to Dallas and Calderwood already being our two wingers.

| I'd go as far as saying he won the game for you today, could of been very different without him.
Sensational.

Well if it was that blows away the idea Mo signed all the players!
An interesting notion?
Whatever, Millward may have signed him but it took Noble to get him playing right.

Or maybe playing him where he was meant to play? Granted Nobby put him there, Millward just used him in the centres because of the Dallas and Calderwood. Playing Pat on the wing is what helped him most.

It doesn't matter who the wingers were, Millward decided to play him at centre and it was a mistake. Who was it who picked Pat at centre? (It was Millward).
Who was it who picked Pat on the wing when Dallas was still at the club? (It was Noble even though Dallas was fit after injury for several games before his final couple of appearances - he was keeping Dallas out).
Fact of the matter is Noble recognised Richards as a winger, never a centre and played him on the wing and in so doing saved his Wigan career IMO.
Since playing on the wing he has gone on to be a great player for us.

| When he first signed for us if we didnt have Calderwood and Dallas he would of played on the wing, however next available spot was centre and your not going to leave Richards out. When Noble arrived it was injuries to Calderwood and Dallas that seen Richards get his chance on the wing.

That is what I meant. He is not a centre and never was.

Signing a winger and putting him in the centres seems an odd idea to me. We as a club did it a couple of times including Richards and it didn't work. I think Jamie Ainscough (or what it Mark Bell?) was signed as such? Richards was actually signed to play centre as well . It was in the press at the time and the news from the club and Richards was quoted he was looking forward to it.
If it was because we had Dallas (in his last year with us) and Calders it doesn't let Millward off the hook IMO. A mistake to play him there IMO.

Not so IMO. He was signed to play centre. Do a search and see if you can find any news items of the time and I am sure you will see he was signed to switch to be a centre.

Dallas getting injured did let Richards have a run on the wing and it was like watching a different player. I asked the question at the time was there a way back for Dallas given the way Richards went (and I was one of Dallas biggest fans). It really was almost the second coming seeing Richards used properly.

| Ok I will have a look at him being signed to play centre, but all I was getting at was it was Millward who brought him here. What other signings did Millward make in his time here apart from the rubbish ones?
Logan?
Fletcher?
Barrett?
Feka?
