That is an old fashioned and outdated approach. Coaches have to be almost a physcologist these days and Wane has alot to learn in that department IMO.
It's his job to get the best out of players and not look like a coach form the 70's. He doesn't have the luxery to speak his mind if it undermines players confidence and the critisism of Gelling was crass. There was plenty of poor play v Wakefield's 12 men including the shoddy defense down the middle that led to two tries so to say that about Gelling given what else happened in that game was out of order IMO. Just no need for it.

| As an outsider looking in, i'd say the jury is still out. Wane has the team chuntering along well week in week out but I feel wigan are almost in danger of becoming a 'flat track bully' team, once that rolls over mid table teams with ease but then loses the big close games. There are some teams that seem to play, for example, like their lives depend on it against leeds, but then bend over for wigan, who are more than good enough to take full ruthless advantage. When a team is regular putting 50 and 60 points on other teams, it's easy to look at them and think 'they're the dogs bollox', but sometimes it pays to look deeper.
So the real judgement of wane will come at seasons end. If wigan haven't at least made one major final (preferably the grand final), he has failed.

How did we know any of this if the coach kept everything in house?

The downside would probably be Iestyn Harris moving elsewhere for a head coach role but I could live with that'"

How do you know that the criticism of Gelling wasn't psychological?
People respond to different triggers.
Gelling might be the type of player that needs to be publicly embarrassed to up his game. Others will need an arm round the shoulder.
That said, I've never met any of our players so I couldn't comment on their personality types.

Me too but I suppose I should have added 'the majoritys expectations' in that statement.
The bloke loves the club and as much as he'll make mistakes along the way that's a great base from which to work. If we fail it won't be for the want of trying.
A new deal must be close.

Unfortunately there are a small number of people on this board with a hidden agenda to publically discredit Shaun Wane at any given opportunity due to them being 'in the know' relating to some certain incidents throughout our recent past.
Obviously it's become apparent that the team (and it's chairman) have lost confidence in Mr Wane that we are now languishing at the bottom of SL and the club is in tatters.

| Is it not about expectation? The expectation of our owner is that we should win either a CC or a SL GF. Anything less will be demed unacceptable by our owner. Such high expectations are 'The Wigan Way' Shaun Wane and the players understand those expectations and 'The Wigan Way'. Many Wigan 'supporters' posting in this thread do not share the expectations of our owner, Shaun Wane, the players and real Wigan supporters.
