its a ploy that most SL coaches have used - either to defend their players, or to put thoughts in ref's ears regarding opposition tactics (our defense strategies comes to mind)

I think he's put a bit of a target on Sam now; made him look a bit soft really.

Why not have a no tackle rule for Tomkins, that way he does not need to milk the penalty when he gets the ball, it's just automatic the second he is tackled. Will save everyone time.

Youre slightly missing the point. Whilst I agree Sam does bend the rules slightly at times, Wane is talking about players trying to injure him which isnt the same thing. The Ablett tackle on him last season was disgraceful but Sa's in Montpellier was even worse. I'm pretty sure both were punished simply be penalties!



No one is asking for one rule for Sam and another for everyone else but he is definately being targeted. Whilst to an extent this is part of the game, all players deserve protection by the RFL when they are subject to opponents looking to injure them. No one can stop it before it happens but offending players need to be punished. This is not happening at the moment and thats what I think Wanes point is.

I don't think he is being targeted any differently than the best players in other teams. All good players are targeted to stop them running riot. To say that the other players in the team will protect him is daft. By doing what? Surely they will get pulled up then for foul play.

Firstly its the lack of proper punishments that is SW's gripe.



Secondly get used to a coach that talks about players in the team protecting him. You've just appointed one!

That sa incident was nowhere near as bad as that ablett incident.



To me I think the biggest change that needs making is how bans work.



For example. If we are top with Wire second and play Leeds and ablett does something like he did that time and gets banned next time missing playing Wire a week later then we actually are disadvantaged as that makes it easier for a team chasing us. IMO a player should get banned for the next match against the same team unless they've already played each other twice.

I remember all the times he held players down and won penalties for it. What goes around......... I hope one day he toddles off to play Union, but not until someone breaks a part of his face.
