I assume it comes from Wigan being more predominantly catholic and Leigh Protestant. I don't even know if that's the case though tbh the vast majority of people I know from either aren't religious

The Watcher always sings the song & did so last night with the vast majority of the Leigh faithful. He believes it is a witty & clever song but mainly it is just a way of cheering your team on & showing support. You really can take life to seriously sometimes you "anti flute song" people.

Correct,people must lead a very sheltered life if they get offended by that song,as you say its just a way of getting behind your team,probably the loudest song of the night. |

More like they only had to change 'The pope' to 'Wigan Rugby'. Changing more lyrics would be too hard a task for them. |
