People signing up to be referee’s are not signing up to take a constant stream of verbal abuse. Many will give up refereeing or not even bother in the first place because of that, this is something the game can’t afford to happen.

The grade E on both seems over the top. The tackle was aggressive but there was no intent with Matautia. Dawson's commitment overflowed but again a Grafe E. Could have massive implications for the team, not sure why we bother with the challenge cup wish we could take a bye like Toulouse!

Didn't the referee refuse the advice of the TJ, to have a look at the obstruction? He certainly used the VR for all our tries!



That said, there's no excuse for the outburst from Dawson. Presumably the difference between Dawson's offence and Lussick's zero match penalty (at Warrington) is that Dawson was 'questioning the integrity of the official', while Lussick was using 'foul and abusive language' towards the match official. You will note that there is no reference to 'foul and abusive language' in the charge against Dawson. I guess that type of language must be ok then?

It is an issue with all clubs in both the professional and amateur game. However from what I have seen first hand, the worst fans for foul language and verbal abuse towards match officials are Leigh and Hull.
