Think the point being made is that the original conversion was taken from the touchline though, whereas I was under the impression that both kicks would be under the sticks.

| Isn't an an eight point try where the try is actually scored and a foul is committed on the scoring player. Whereas a penalty try is where an offence is committed that stops a try being scored, therefor the bonus is the conversion under the sticks. Two completely different scenarios

Not entirely sure Demon, but I was under the impression that both scenarios meant conversions under the posts.

| Wonder if the worst possible RL punishment has ever been given out. 8 point Try/penalty and player sent off - now that could be a game changer and half

It's always been the case for an "8-point try" (or 7-point try as it used to be) that the conversion was taken as normal, in line with where the try was awarded, then the subsequent penalty from between the posts. For a penalty try the conversion is taken from between the posts.

| When a player is fouled whilst scoring a try firstly the try is awarded, the conversion is taken level with the point of scoring and then the penalty for foul play is taken from in front of the sticks. It is only an "eight point try" if both kicks are successful.

Could not have put it better myself ! Absolutelt spot on !
Last 8 point try I saw was in 87-88 ?
Leigh v Wigan and Tony Cottrell put his knees right into Henderson Gills head. Granted, Gill was goading him at the time. NOT CLEVER !!
Cottrell sent off, but saying that, it finished 11 v 11 that day !!
Does anyone else recall this ?
The two Wigganers I think were Andy Platt and Andy Goodway. Was the other Leigh player Dave Evans ?

| For me the try came from a delibrate forward pass, seems to happen a lot where a video ref is involved teams just throw the ball forward to get it into the in goal area knowing the ref will go to the screen & cannot look at forward passes.
Similar with drop outs under the sticks becoming punts from under the sticks.
Wanted Leigh in the final, but though Sheffield just looked more assured on the ball, too many mistakes from Leigh.
