At last on Centurions T.V. A match against Leeds in the 83/4 season which shows John Woods in his hey day and why us older Leigh fans call him the best natural R.L. Player we have ever seen. The match finished Leeds 18 Woody 24 (6 goals 3 ties). If only some full matches could be found from the magical 81/2 season, when he was absolutely sensational.

He was majestic.Could turn a game around in a play and leave us all "just watching"..Not seen many hitting them goals 50 yards out without a tee these days!
He wasn't the most natural RL player,he was the most level headed player to wear the shirt.Something regardless of money or priority that some still need to learn..

I saw john do a similar tackling stint at Featherstone ,so much so even the fev fans were applauding him |

Although I started off this link by saying Woody was the best natural player I had ever seen play for Leigh, there is one obviously one other that could probably match his exploits on the rugby field - the one and only Alex Murphy. Coincidently it was against Leeds in the 70/71 season when Alex moved to standoff against the great MIck Shoebottom and scored a sensational hat trick of tries in the 1st half at Hilton Park. Does anyone else remember this match?
