What's the point of keeping Centurions in the name? We've never really used it as a marketing tool. It has no real relevance to the team or town. If you talk about going to watch the team you say "I'm going watching Leigh" not "I'm going watching the Centurions". Our mascot is a pig despite our short trial of "Arty" the camp centurion. In recent years we've seen the likes of Halifax & Wakefield drop their Blue Sox and Wildcats. After over 20 years of using the name, what has it actually achieved other than the costs of rebranding the badge a couple of times?

Ask the kids in the schools what they refer to , the answer is ' Centurions ' , personally I'm not bothered

I have, my kids call them Leigh, as do all thier friends at Sacred Heart and St Mary's. My nephew goes to Freddie's in Tyldesley along with one of the players kids and it would seem they refer to the team as just "Leigh". It doesn't bother me either as I've only ever thought of us as Leigh, Just thought I'd ask the question.

Didn't the 'Centurions' name come about, on the 100th anniversary of our club's breakaway to the Northern Union?



I never could understand the reason behind that, as the dictionary definition of a 'Centurion', is either an officer in the Roman army, or a British tank. Someone who is a hundred years old, is a 'Centenarian'. Perhaps we should be re-branded as 'Leigh Centenarians'?

Yes that's my recollection of it Alan. Wasn't it a vote by the fans in the Journal or The Reporter back in the Mick Higgins days? I think the name was suggested by a fan but no one has dared accept responsibility for it.

The actual centurions logo as such needs a revamp.Its very simple and boring.Not a problem with the branding name, but would like to see the crest used more,than that pitiful logo.
