Better the players than Broomhead!

Last year didnt we simply abstain from chosing and were allocated the lowest league ranked team still left in the competition. Infact, out of curiosity, when was the last time a team chose anything other than the lowest league ranked side?

Wasn't it Wigans call last year. We had the call the year before and TS refused to do it then.

He has been against it since it's inception.

In 2011 Smith claimed publicly that he was having nothing to do with it, and sent Broomhead to the DW to make the announcement after Wigan v Catalans. Likewise last year he sent Willie Poaching to the press conference which was attended by the other three head coaches.



However despite all that, Morley wrote in his book that Smith sat down to discuss ClubCall with the players and that the decision was made collectively. Make of that what you will!



Been thinking about this today and if I was Smith I would decide to go on Sky Sports News and toss a coin. Potentially an embarrassing tactic, but then so was Eric Pollard announcing last year that Wigan had chosen Leeds so that they could give us the final everybody wanted!

On a serious note if he did say, "Head i'll pick_____ & Tails i'll pick____.



Now that would be the best message to give the RFL.

What actually happened is that the RFL put the entire play-off package to the clubs, not just the club call. There wasn't really an alternative.
