I think it's Steve Hampson taking a high ball, so it probably is Gill to the left. I don't remember Hanley ever wearing shoulder pads either.

Yeah Steve Hampson he use to leap like a Salmon for those high balls,Had a lot of bottle to,well more than Grahame Steadman did at that time.

Looking at the pic more closely i`d say it was Henderson Gill, the hair just doesn`t look Hanley enough, the face when you look closer seems to be more Gill than Hanley.



I`d only glanced at it quickly before and just presumed it was Hanley due to the physique, Henderson Gill was well built so i`d side with him on balance especially as it looks like he has come in field to protect Hampson under a high ball like good wingers do.

I'd say the pic was from circa 85/6, possibly the JPS tie we lost. The Sparkomatic logo was on the P+B band, and I think that only happened when we were live on the telly

now owns a car wash.....apparently.

I'm not sure about the player being tackled but it could be Graeme West.

It's a bit disconcerting that you can recognize who that player is from that particular angle!
