Good question - anyone know the answer?
And as for 'shocking' prices. It's only a quid more to watch Warrington at home. I know that the Willows is a charmless hovel but that's why they're moving.

True but we get decent attendances. This is Salford's final season at their long time home - what are they doing to try to go out on a high? Our attendances were up in 2003, despite the disastrous 2002 season. Charging £20 to get into a poor stadium to stand in sub-3000 crowds in such a historic season is crackers. OK so the crowd this Friday might rise to 5 or 6k, but they should have been aiming for a sell-out.

| I've never understood the poor stadium/good stadium ticket price justification.
Can you pee, can you buy a pie and beer and can you watch rugby in any stadium in SL, erm yes.
If i wanted to go and marvel at a stadium i'd pay for the Old Trafford tour instead.
Yes it's a dump but you are paying for the privilege to watch the game not the quality of the stadium.

You are missing the point. Most clubs that move to a new stadium see a big increase in attendances. Therefore it is proven that they have an affect. Salford are in a historic year and ought to be looking to build momentum before their big move - exactly what we did and look at us now. Getting less than 3k is very poor and charging £20 can't be helping.

Ok SEB, imagine Salford have their nice new stadium, have ticket prices of £10 for adults, how many fans do you think they'd get per game (excluding away fans)?
I can't see, even with a succesful club, Salford getting a regular crowd over 7k in the next 10 years.

Think you'll find that was because half of the Greater Manchester area was 200 miles down south last saturday.

How depressingly unambitious. Salford should be looking at getting at least a couple of sell-outs next year, with proper marketing and ticket offers.
From Salford's licence application:
Quote Yed™The extensive market research carried out in association with
Sportswise into the potential supporter increase is based on
what we can expect from within the confines of the city of
Salford and remains valid so is included within the submission
for a licence. This report was commissioned to support the
club’s planning enquiry and is recognised by professional disciplines
and approved by the Secretary of State
it is important to realise that
the Sportswise report highlights that we can expect to attract
an average of at least 8500 supporters in the first year drawing
solely from within the boundaries of the City of Salford which
has a population of 220,000 people.
This would be a return of just 4% from the club’s traditional
target market. When you consider that the population of the
Manchester region is in excess of 2.5 million, we need only
to attract a little over 0.1% of that extended market to take
our crowds beyond 12,500 (and indeed beyond the phase 1
capacity of the City of Salford Community Stadium).
Salford City Reds has recruited and trained an innovative,
talented, experienced and progressive off field team and they
will demonstrate their plans to aggressively market the club
into both new and traditional areas in the Marketing plan that
follows.
It is our firm assertion that this push, coupled with the
excitement of a new facility in a highly visible ‘dream location’
at the Western Gateway to the city will mean that these
number projections could well prove to be conservative and
our issues will quickly move from not generating large enough
attendances to chasing the second phase of the development
and increasing the stadium’s capacity to 20,000 as soon as is
possible.'"
Looking at other comments in it, it seems they realise they have had a very unappealing product at the Willows: a poor stadium in a very poor location and a poor team. And that 2012 onwards provides them with a huge opportunity to grow so perhaps they've decided marketing won't make much difference in 2011, let's just maximise ticket revenue.

| Are people honestly judging Salford attendances based on last Saturday? Seriously?! They were victims of atrocious scheduling and anyone with any knowledge of sport outside RL would have been aware beforehand that half their season ticket holders wouldn't even be turning up for that one, nevermind anyone else. I was actually surprised they got as many as they did.
Personally I'll miss the Willows when it's gone and I'm looking forward to Friday. I do think £20 is overpriced, but so is £19 to get into Warrington. We still pay it, and it's only a quid difference.
