| Think this is a pretty big loss for the club, when we are bringing in a coach who builds his team around defence we would have been better served with long working on our attack. With Fages, Evalds and Syned on the books Long for me had a big part to play in their progression.
Do think at some point Long will be a very good head coach and good luck to him.
I just hope that this doesn't lead to Paul coming in in his place.

| Well Marshy, what can you do if someone resigns, that is his choice. Most have said thanks for what you have done, but if he wants to be elsewhere that s up to him. You like your occasional prod and that is ok, but don't try and make out it is somehow the club, or fans fault. Sean is a big boy and has made his own decision, players, coaches and administrators come and go, it is only us fans who stick around.

| There is the Long way and the Noble way.
I'd be very surprised if Long and Noble could ever resolve their issues.
In the end Salford need a Noble with his Plan A type rugby. He can mold a team and contruct a pretty mean defensive line.

Bill, I don't seem to see anywhere where I apportioned blame, I simply pointed out that not long ago Mr Long was being held as a decent asset to your club, yet all of a sudden a few on here are forgetting how he stuck around in troubled times.
I fail to see where the prod is.
Anyhow good luck on Sunday, I hope you take a few to Gloucester to boost their coffers.

We've been crying out for this for decades. We can play some pretty expansive RL at times, certainly as good as anyone else in the competition. It's our defense that has let us down, consistently, over the years. If he can bring in a defensive mentality we will rise pretty rapidly imo.

He's got to do both - otherwise we just end up with another Karl Harrison scenario - defence massively toughened but then we stopped scoring!

| Quote GT="GT"A most ridiculous post.
Balls to how much more the players can take. They're not in charge. The Dr. and Noble are. About time we had a backroom staff with backbone, we've suffered from the players and fringe staff having too much influence for far too long.
Onwards and upwards.'"
The MEN reported in January, after the club was saved, that the stability that was missing previously, when McRae,Alker,Parish and then Veivers were the coaches, would finally arrive at SCR.It hasn't !
Whether or not the backroom staff have backbone, the players will now have new structures and tactics to learn and won't know if they are punched, bored or countersunk.
There are now 2 new assistants to arrive just to complete the stability.

How shortsighted.
Reality check,we are bottom of the heap.
We need to bring a new coaching team in to create stability.
The players will welcome new structures and tactics because it might just lead to a winning bonus and, certainly,a better experience for them on the pitch.
I'm sorry that Sean Long has gone,I really am,but your first post really summed up your view, and thats not been supported by anyone else on here.

Yes and he was back then, but now we have Noble it’s no secret him and Long don't get on. He didn't want to stay, so what? It's no biggy now. It would have been under the circumstances before Koukash, but now we need to trust in Koukash and he decided Noble was right, so if that means sacrificing Long then so be it.

The stability will come. We're now in a period of upheaval which was inevitable after the takeover. Considering we're all expecting a shedload of new players next year then immediate stability isn't going to happen - planning ahead by getting a new coach and backroom staff in now is a good move. Unless, of course, you think our current game plan is working perfectly well and we should just wait until the end of the season before trying to put anything new in place giving less time for the entire club to adjust?
No one, realistically, expects anything out of this season. Working towards having a stable, solid club for next season is the best possible thing we can do. If Long resigning is a part of that then so be it.

| What happened to SCR SeaDiver?
He used to be reasonable and lucid. Recently, he seems to have had a 'forum Breakdown'. Sniping, baiting, and throwing out some weird posts.
I'm not having a pop, SCR Seadiver, I'm genuinely concerned that a rational poster is sliding into the abyss.
