| Quote SmokeyTA="SmokeyTA"I have no idea why you think the relative merits of SL and the NRL are germane to a conversation about the relative merits of the AMNRL and SL.'"
I have no idea why you felt it was pertinent to introduce the relative merits of a team just because it defeated another team containing 7/8 players with SL experience, apart from reasons related to insecurity. On the topic of the relative merits of the AMNRL, it's clear you were ignorantly unaware that 12 USA players yesterday happen to be overseas products of Australia and all 40 points were scored by those overseas products and coached by an overseas product, hence the absurdity of your continued commitment to a conversation on the relative merits of the AMNRL and SL.

| Can't we just celebrate the fact that a country the size of the USA has qualified for the 2013 World Cup, with several domestic players, instead of turning it into a typical "let's try and find something to moan about" RL topic?

You dont see why it is pertinent to discuss the relative merits of one team to the team they were playing? wierd.

No, of course not. It is very unimportant to note the level of quality of either team nor the relative quality of the home produced players to the players they were playing against.
What is important however is that an NRL fanboy makes it known he believes the NRL to be of better quality than SL.

| Quote Charlie Sheen="Charlie Sheen"How many of those players are actually from the USA? (genuine question)'" Probably not that many. As alluded to earlier in the thread, there is a situation in the USA at the moment where the vast majority of domestic players are not being considered for international selection because of a dispute between governing bodies. Hopefully this will be rectified in time for the World Cup.

Either way, its great that we are in a situation where RL of this level, is played between these two nations including players picked from the respective national competitions.

As I've come to expect from any American team there are some brilliant names in there. Curtis Cunz and Apple Pope stand out.

| Quote Keith Swiftcorn="Keith Swiftcorn"Looking at the points scorers for the USA, McGoldrick and Petersen's SL experience didn't contribute. Let's take a look at the players who did contribute all 40 of USA's points yesterday...
[uTries[/u
Steve Howard (Tuggeranong Vikings - Canberra)
David Marando (Belrose Eagles - NSW Cup & Manly/North Sydney District)
Mitch Stevens (North Sydney Bears - NSWRL)
Mark Cantoni (Northern Pride - Qld Cup, Qld Country)
David Myles (Gold Coast Chargers/Titans, Auckland Warriors, NQ Cowboys)
Danny Howard (Wentworthville Magpies, NSWRL)
Mark Offerdahl (Easts Tigers - Qld Cup)
[uGoals[/u
Joseph Paulo 6 (Parramatta, Penrith, Samoa, Australian Schoolboys)
Throw in a coach with several years recent NRL experience in Matthew Elliott and it ought to be of no surprise to anyone that the USA beat another team containing 7/8 players with SL experience.'"
Keith, you and your lists eh?

| Jamacians only had a four day turn around after playing South Africa last Wednesday too. Gotta be a factor.

Yeah looking forward to Stevo commentating on these names!
In all seriousness great for the game. A smattering of real yanks, but at a glance the RL WC now has a more of a World feel to it. Heard the Pope captain bloke speak before and he could be a real ambassador for the WC in changing peoples perceptions that these teams are totally made up of Aussies with heritage. Just need the Cedars to pull through now.
