If England can't kick effectively on the last tackle, consequently gifting Australia sets on the half way line, we won't even get close. Saints' defense (including Lomax's) was brilliant today, but how many sets in our half did Lomax gift Wigan in the second half? That is not to say he wasn't superb in all other aspects.

My thoughts too, but isn't Widdop a pretty decent kicker?? He's also been outstandign in the NRL by all accounts. Nice to have these debates for a change. It would take a lot for Brough not to be there, but Lomax is certainly something special.. I really think we should be challenging for the 4N this year. I think we have got a squad with depth.

Would be pretty good but maybe it's a bit too soon for Lomax.

If he was paired with someone with a kicking game then they'd work well together. But Widdop has Cronk and Smith doing most of the kicking at Melbourne, so the Aussies would be starting every set 40 metres out with Lomax and Widdop as our halves.

Brough had an outstanding first half of the season, not sure he's got back to the same level since his layoff.

Players like Brough look good in the highlights but do not give a team enough over the 80 mins. He isn't a young man either so picking him would be a short term move. He does have a better kicking game than the other candidates but needs to show he can do it in a big game. He needs to show what he is made of against Leeds next week to stand a chance in my opinion.



Lomax is a player that needs to be included to look towards the future. His utility value would make him a good bench player in the early rounds. He is not the best kicker and neither is Widdop so therefore you would need a kicker like Sinfield.



Myler is starting to look a better player but has a lot of support at Warrington with Hodgson, Monaghan and Briers doing the playmaking also. Myler has great potential but needs to take a bigger role at Warrington if he wants to push into the England side.



Widdop, it is hard to exclude the starting stand off from the NRL minor premiers. He has looked good in the NRL games I have seen this year.

Lomax is all class and should definitely be in the 4N squad,probably in the subs,would start Widdop and Brough as half backs at this minute in time.

And some Saints fans want to play him at FB.

Nah. Widdop at 6, Brough at 7, Roby at 9, Sinfield at 13. I think Robinson and Lomax switching for Roby and Widdop or Brough.

I too thought Brough should be England scrum half earlier this season but he hasn't got going since returning from his ankle injury, Lomax on the other hand just gets better and better.



Jonny Lomax should be England's number 7 in the Four Nations.
