www.nrl.com/newsviews/latestnews ... fault.aspx
"Both sides will be able to interchange attacking or defensive players before the extra play and no kicks will be allowed."
Gives it a little more credability but I'm still not much of a fan.
I could be won over by the way it works in this match.

| Isn't it time the ARL / NRL recognised that the body for changing the rules of the game is the RLIF, not national leagues?

| Will we have "time outs" for coaching purposes?
Or will they be allowed to take conversions in front of the posts rather than where the try is scored?
Perhaps we could do away with the need to ground the ball, and just have two feet over the try line.
What about forming scrums in a straight line rather than as they are now?
Do away with the forward pass rule?
If it aint broke, don't fix it.

| complete nonsense.
especially if you are not allowed to kick the ball - it will just lead to aimless throwing of the ball round with no-one wanting to take a tackle, inevitably leading to a mistake rather than a try.
a few questions:
- where does the play start - how far out? and in line with where the original try was scored, or under the sticks?
- is the "defending" team able to score during this period of play?
- can you go for a drop goal if a try doesnt look like it will happen?
- is the match clock still running while this play happens?

That would mean they'd have to recognise that rugby league exists outside of their own minds

| I...kinda like it.
For an exhibition match..sod it, go for it, do your worst.
I'd like to have seen kicks included. On a one play defensive set you can cover the kick accurately 9/10

| The NRL really are panicking about the game dying on its backside in Australia aren't they? First golden point, now this?

| I understand it's an attempt to make the game more exciting, but really it just looks like instead of a conversion you'll just get a bomb every time.
and what's to stop it being used to put a cricket score on teams?

| Seriously, is this a joke? NRL is going down the NFL route more and more. Everything from this extra play initiative to splitting the game into quarters is making this fixture a complete farce.
I thought NRL attendances and viewing figures were at an all time high so why are Gallop et al messing around with the rules?
