At first I thought the RL were finishing with the Magic Week-End but I heard a rumour that they are moving it from The Etihad and it*s going up to the North East presumably St James Park Newcastle...Has anyone heard the same?

They need to dump it, with relegation it us inequitable to have a schedule that is not equal leading to the split.
Just replace it with a nines tournament, magic weekend is made for nines and the crazy English and French fans will love the carnival atmosphere and dressing up that accompanies nines!
Make it SL 12 plus 4 invitational sides, 2 from lower division, 2 from French league.

I have heard the same. Apparently it's just for a year as Etihad is unavaluble due to work being done on it straight after the football session next year. |

The league format has been set in stone for ages now.
I think everyone agreed that something had to change with the challenge cup as it has lost some spice in recent years.
Magic weekend (I know a lot of people do not like the idea but I have been to most of them and I love the weekend) but as I put in my other post has to move next year due to eithiad being univalible next year.
Extending the world club challenge is a good idea .
I don't really see the complaints you have? |

Exclusive: Newcastle United to stage rugby league Magic Weekend in May 2015

The home of Newcastle United will stage rugby league's 'Magic Weekend' in May, with an announcement due this week

St James’ Park will stage six rugby league games in the space of two days next year when Super League’s ‘Magic Weekend’ comes to the North East.
The Sunday Sun can exclusively reveal that the home of Newcastle United has won the race to stage the weekend-long event, which has previously been held in Cardiff, Edinburgh and Manchester.
The Magic Weekend sees all 12 Super League clubs playing an extra round of regular-season matches, including the likes of Wigan, Leeds, St Helens and Warrington.
The news will be officially confirmed on Wednesday, with the event expected to be held at the end of May.
It comes on the back of St James' Park also being chosen as the venue for three group matches during next year’s rugby union World Cup, which takes place during the first two weeks of October.
It is both a boost to the region and its rugby.

Good choice of venue. City centre stadium, plenty of bars close by, good for generating atmosphere.

Great news, Newcastle is an ideal venue with its compact City centre and nightlife.
also St James' parks design makes it easy for the RFL to sell the bottom tier (s) first so it'll look full for the camera's.
