Not quite true though. The [ipoints[/i will be reset to zero, but the league position those points gave you isn't wiped, it forms the basis of the next set of fixtures. There is a considerable advantage to finishing "top" since for example if Leigh finish top, and we finish second, then in the Super 8s we have to play Leigh away. So it's at least possible that that win will ultimately give Leigh home advantage against us in the Super 8s, plus a theoretically slightly easier set of remaining fixtures.
One interesting argument to me is to first, predict who you think may finish 1,2 3 and 4; then decide from the fixture grid which is the best set of fixtures. For example:
* if you start the Super 8s in position 4, you are Away to 2,3,7 and home to 5,6,8,1 - whereas
* if you start the Super 8s in position 3, you are Away to 1,2,6 and home to 4,5,7,8
If in that scenario Leigh had finished top then I would argue a team would be better off in 4th than third, as then they get to play Leigh as a home fixture. Teams 2 and 3 would both have to visit Leigh.
