| Quote Maislebugs="Maislebugs"Had he said to the Bulls board what he's allegedly said to 'few people' 2 months ago I think everybody would have been happy to move on. However, having said precisely the opposite the Bulls cannot cut him loose should they want to. From Orford's perspective he has also carried on taking the money right into the off season when out of contract players are being signed up leaving the Bulls unlikely to be able to attract someone of similar status.
D day here is first day of pre-season training. If Orford's here then all's well and good. If he's not then both parties are in a deep mess. The Bulls because they have no realistic chance of getting a replacement and Orford because he will be in breach of contract.
The legal experts might want to comment here as in those circumstances it could be argued that Orford may have acted in a duplicitous manner considering the assurances he has given Peter Hood.'"
That's spot on imo.
What no-one seems to recognise is the fact that if Ordord actually wants to go, he only has to say so, to the club. There is no club, anywhere, who would attempt to retain a player, no matter how good, how important, or how long his contract, who doesn't want to be there. That is how Eastwood got out of his Leeds deal and that is how Matt could end his deal at the Bulls; if he wanted to!
The fact that all his communications have been the opposite suggests he doesn't want to leave.

| My thinking exactly.
Surely Orford and his agent are smart enough to realise that if he does want out we need to know early to look for a replacement. We are more likely to agree a release if we have someone lined up

The Whinos will let him go if whoever wants him will pay them £100K for his remaining contract! So it's not as straightforward as you think!
But Orfords options are straightforward
a) He comes back
b) He stays in Oz and some Club pays the Bulls for his registration
c) He stays in Oz and retires but no doubt will still have to compensate the Bulls
d) He joins Lord Lucan and disappears forever!

A bit like any overseas players options then.

Well, not really, obviously some deal will have to be made, that's always the case when someone is in contract, point is that clubs never hold players to their contracts. No club is going to play someone who isn't interested and yet they can't have a large chunk of their cap money wasted on the sidelines.
It's fairly unlikely, since I'd guess that most of the dealing would be done by now but, the worst case scenario with Orford would be if he really did want to go, but couldn't get (say) a two year contract with a club in Aus, so wasn't telling the Bulls just yet, in the hope that something comes up later. From what I've heard about Matt, he's a principled sort of bloke and not the kind to leave us in the lurch just before the season starts. Let's hope he turn s up for training ready to rock and roll.

Dunno anything about that tbh, I'm basing it on snippets from here and there, mainly Aussie sources, but I've not heard anything about the Storm.

Lynch is a great captain - always leads by example.
No reason to change imo.
