| Quote @SuperLeague18="@SuperLeague18"I agree, he has a very unique sidestep shown quite a few times this year, most noticably against Wigan for Makinson try, always liked him at Hull, and formed a good partnership with Foster, who's game is much like Tommy's, looking forward to seeing them grow a partnership when Lomax comes back in at fullback.'"
He seems to lack that extra 10% to break the tackle, he always nearly breaks the line but doesn't push that extra little bit.
He seems to laid back but has all the tools to be a good super league centre.

I see that sometimes, a guarenteed upgrade on Shenton, not too shabby in defence either. Remember him making a one-on-one tackle to save a try a few weeks back. Very unpredictable player.

| Quote The Chair Maker="The Chair Maker"My rationale for this is that if Saints were genuinely interested in Broughton i would have expected them to have made a move a few years ago. Its not like he has just burst on the scene this year.'"
Saints have been happy to keep re-signing Meli and Gardner though so maybe it has been more a question of lack of ambition on the part of Saints rather than a comment upon Broughton?
Mind you, like you I do suspect the story is a bit of gamesmanship from his agent. Koukash has lots of dosh to throw around and so I'm sure there's an attempt at getting a bit more of it to fly Broughton's way.

Quote The Chair Maker="The Chair Maker"Jodie Broughton is the archetypal Saints winger. Pace and excitement.
I am however very wary of this MEN article.
It smacks of an agent leaking a false story in order to get a better deal from Marwen for Jodie.
My rationale for this is that if Saints were genuinely interested in Broughton i would have expected them to have made a move a few years ago. Its not like he has just burst on the scene this year.
There is also the interesting fact that Broughton is a part time RL player. He has a good job as a surveyor.
uk.linkedin.com/pub/jodie-broughton/65/479/77a
Saints would probably therefore need to offer him big money to go full time. Something that they may not be able to warrant for a winger.'"
I'm sure his agent is trying to get him a salary boost but I suspect if he wants to stay at Salford (with the new management)or make a move to any top SL side he would be required to go full time pro and put his other job on hold until retirement. He would be a great signing for us.

Not quite as good as:

2. Jones-Bishop
3. Watkins
4. Moon

In fairness, I for one believe Broughton is one that Leeds should have tried more to retain. He is a natural winger with bags of pace, balance and genuine ability to take on players on the outside. A bit like Scott Donald without the fragility....or, dare I say it, John Atkinson.

Yes the Leeds backline is currently a very quick and high quality set of backs.
Added to which Leeds have further pace in Burrows and Mcguire.
Its why Leeds will IMO clean up this year when it comes to major trophys, barring a major injury crises later in the season.

And not even close to...
1. Tomkins.
2. Charnley.
3. Goulding.
4. Hughes.
5. Richards.
I'm suprised no-one has mentioned Mark Percival, I think he has a great future ahead of him. Ok he's primarily a centre, but has enough pace for a winger.

| Saints have been interested for a couple of years but he was always on contract with Salford.
Good signing.

Percival is highly rated on here and I'd take our potential back line over yours especially when you remove Tomkins from it. You wipe the floor with us when we start talking 6 & 7 at the moment though and we currently dont seem to have plans to fix it so our in my view better outside backs would just be window dressing

| I would be very resistant to moving Percival out of his centre spot.
We have been without a proper centre there for almost 10 years. Talau left and since then has been covered by 2nd rowers, wingers and some youth players, Of whom Jones was the best. Jones solidified the position and could have done a job there, but Percival has been a revelation.
He will need a rest during the season, so I have no doubts he will be dropped out of the starting line up at some point. But that should be welcomed. I would imagine Brown had no plan to play him as much as he has.
A few weeks rest and then back to it... But if he has to play it has to be as a centre where he can do the most damage. i'd switch Turner before Percival and there are any number of wingers that can fill a spot.

| Don't see the need to switch either Turner or Percival. They should be our centres for the foreseeable future.
Makinson will switch back to wing and someone else (be that Broughton or otherwise) will come in on the other wing - presuming that Meli and Gardner will both leave, although I think Meli for another season would not be the end of the world if we fail with Broughton or someone else.

| Percival is a centre - 100% natural centre. These guys are rare - don't you dare move him.
