| I said after the GF win in 2004 that Smith had won a heck of a lot of brownie points as coach after winning the first Championship in 30 years, and I really don't understand why he was pilloried to the ridiculous extent of suggesting that Leeds could/would have won in 2004 with Powell still in charge. And yet there has been little on here suggesting that this side is Smith's. Which it is in many ways.
I also think people pay far too much credence to gossip about players 'not liking' the coach. I'm not sure liking matters as much as respecting, and I also don't care given Smith's record. This isn't the Wigan side of the 80s where they were able to win despite the team disliking Dorahy - I don't believe for a second that this team is in any way that far superior to Sts that they could win a GF 33-6 without significant input from the coach.
Having said that McClennan was on a hiding to nothing this year - Leeds could easily have come up with nothing, so genuine credit to him also.

| Gary Hetherington must be doing something right afterall.
Three Championships in five years (including a back to back) is unheard of territory for any sporting club from Leeds.
The only blot is Leeds' lack of recent success in the Challenge Cup.
I don't want to sound needy or ungrateful though.

| Quote Terrace Casual="Terrace Casual"Gareth privately said to me that Mcclennan was getting the team playing the best rugby he had ever seen by a Leeds team. We both agreed it was too early to judge him because why should he be judged on a handful of games? why should any coach be judged on a handful of games (that goes for Dean Lance too)?
That is the point here. It doesnt matter which coach it was, Smith OR McClennan, the simple fact is that you lambasted Smith for the same things you didn't lambast McClennan. That's double standards and has been our agenda throughout.
The fact that you're scrabbling about falling over yourself in a bid to shift the focus to others only emphasizes it further.
McClennan has done fantastic job having the team peak at the right time twice in one season but that doesnt mean to say some of the performances inbetween were top drawer also. Far from it but that doesnt matter. What matters is the result come the end of the season which was our point throughout Smiths last season when yourself and a number of others bleated and moaned for Smith to go. Some of the posts were shameful and to try to twist and turn it onto others in a bid to save face is quite frankly, pathetic.'"
I have to be honest, but I never saw anybody on these boards lambasting Smith in his first year at Leeds.
Therefore I fail to see the hypocrisy. The only thing I see is two people who have dug a very big hole for themselves and are struggling to get out of it.

Good luck getting out of that hole.
Unfortunately in your case you have a bigger one than Danny. You displayed your serious lack of knowledge of not only the game, but talent of players during the week.
And whilst I dont like to gloat, with regards to Lee Smith, you can kiss my hairy buttocks.

I spoke to Leroy Rivett and Gary Connolly and they agreed.
I was going to ask Matt Diskin but he was unavailable to comment so I will wait until Buderus arrives.
I never said Smith didn't have talent, I said he was easily replaceable. He is. The right winger from Saturday night can do a decent job and we do have a fairly competent full back at the club.
I'll repeat what i said before (because comprehension isn't your strong point). I desperately hope we don't have to replace him but, if we do, we will do so easily.

| I'd argue that Leeds may well have won the GF in 2004 under Powell. The foundations were there for Smith when he took over and he fine tuned the team to glory in that great season.
Or am I mistaken????

| At the start of the season I felt although highly motivated leeds were too in disciplined to win anything.
I kept this opinion through most of the season.
But, [uI was wrong[/u.
The team and McClennan did a fantastic job of turning things around from 2 weeks ago, but also peaking for both the WCC and the Grand final, we are the first team to do that.
They deserve all the accolades and will no doubt enjoy some serious boozing
