What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes.
You had the honour and hit your ball a modest two hundred fifty yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin.
Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.
Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball.
Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says, "Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don't find it in time, I'll concede the match."
You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin.
About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods, "I found it!".
The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more
than six inches from the hole.
Now here is the ethical dilemma:
Do you pull the cheating barstewards ball out of your pocket and confront him with it, or do you keep your mouth shut..?'"
It's Golf. You accept it and even if you think there is a doubt at the back of your mind you accept it and try to hole your putt.
A couple of years back I played this lad in an 8-15s league match at Hollins hall. He had dropped from being an 18 handicapper to a 12 in a matter of weeks and when I played him it wasn't hard to see why. He told me later on that his captain had put him in because he would intimidate his opponent with the distance he hit the ball. Funny thing was, thats my game

On the 1st hole he hit a 5 wood down the midlle of the fairway to about 250. I thought, balls to this and got the driver out and landed it 5 yards from the front of the green, about a 300 yard drive. His face dropped slightly.
Anyway, we had such a good close game and we were almost identical with the way we played that we got to the 18th, A/S with both of us only dropping 8 shots to that point. It was pitch black by now as frankly, the game in front of us was taking the p*ss. We both tee'd off and we both sounded like we hit perfect drives. The 'ping' was perfect, the balance felt right and we walked up the fairway. As we got to about the 270/280 mark, there was a ball sat perfectly in the middle of the fairway, but just the 1. As I walked up to it I saw my signature 3 red dots in a triangular formation above the pro v1 sign and breathed a sigh of relief. Then we went on looking for his ball. Could we find it? Not a chance. We had 8 people looking all over the place but it was that dark you couldnt really see more than 5 or 10 metres accurately.
At this point, what would you do?..
