When the team you play for is 80 mins away from Old Trafford, if you lose your season is over, you don't need any more motivation.

The motivation that the team with the pick, picks you (whoever you are) and not the other team. 'Look lads they think they can take us.' It may only make 1% of difference but it'll be there and used by the opposition coach.



The best way to nullify that is by (preferably) declaring the whole concept a gimmick and pick the lowest qualifier.

Erm, ye. That is exactly what we did. Picked the lowest qualifying team and stated that was always our intention.

Now here's a thought. Assuming Warrington get through Saints pick Wigan at home, thinking we can do Wigan and Warrington, with their pack, can do us.



That leaves Saints, according to their thinking, with a Wigan game at home and if they win a grand Final against a team that chokes against them rather than vice versa.

It's a tough choice either way (following your initial assumption) and we'll be treated to a fitting pair of semi finals to decide who gets to contest the Grand Final this season.



Here's a thought for the administrators to guarantee the top four make the play-offs every season. How about we just have the top four invited into the play-offs in future.
