I think we were faced with this a couple of years ago. England played France on a Friday in France and the following day Leeds played Cas at Headingley and won 18-12 with a weakened team, all those Leeds players that played for England could not get back from France in time to play the game.



St Helens however played on the Sunday and therefore played a full strength side with all their international players as they could get back in time to play the game given the extra day. St Helens went on to stuff whoever they were playing by 40+ points. England v France should be a game for up and coming players not established internationals.

If we have four players selected we have the option to re-schedule and of course tvoc is correct, in recent seasons we have not done that. We have not done this because our league position has been quite secure and you will always have the issue of when you play a re-scheduled game, usually shoe-horned between two regular fixtures, meaning you don't have players as well rested as normal. So do you play with well rested players but missing 4 (or more) regular first team'ers, or wait for those first team'ers to be available, but having to play a game three days after their last?



That all said it will depend on exactly where we sit the week before the fixture and knowing, if we do indeed have four players in the squad, what the impact maybe on the club for either option.



Incidentally, it is difficult for a player to refuse to play in a representative match without very good reason if picked. If they do they can't play for their club anyway in the time they are required to be on representative duty, so the previous 5 days before the game and the day of the game itself. A player is likely to be guilty of misconduct and suspended and fined accordingly. The only accepted exception to this rules seems to be when older players 'retire' from international duty, after previously been an integral part of the international set up.

Who in their right mind is going to pick a Leeds player other than Hall for this meaningless game, based on current form? And Hall would only be in because of the lack of alternatives.

Since when he England/GB coaches been in their right mind when it comes to selection. Besides which why would an England coach be too concerned with form from February and M<arch when he picks a test side in June?
