Something on radio 5 other day about mistakes people make with "well known" phrases or expressions.... Such as damp squid, on tenderhooks, mute point etc etc





Thankfully I have never been guilty of any of those ...... But am I the only one that used to proclaim " it depends on how the lamb lies " ?? I only realised my mistake twenty years later after first using it. Whoops !



I blame the classic Gabriel led, Genesis album of 1974 affecting me in my formative years.

Somebody I used to work with used the phrase "moo point" once. She had a tremendous flair for using things that almost sounded like well known phrases, but that was my favourite.



She even tried to explain what it meant, which involved the opinions of cows, but I forget the details. Probably as laughter was starving my brain of oxygen by that point.

the early Genesis albums were pretentious rubbish IMO - produced by spoilt brats of rich families who were taking the proverbial.......



anyway,on to expressions - I recall an old old seafaring mate from Torquay coming out with the expression



"one swallow doesn't make an orgy" !
