Quote Superted="Superted"Playing Wigan in a Wembley Cup Final (as big underdogs) has got me all nostalgic and thinking back to the finals in the mid-ninties. Now I've been going to headingley since the mid-eighties as a kid and it got me thinking about songs/chants from yesteryear that you dont hear often.
I'm sure there has probably been a thread before on this subject but hey ho.... So, has anybody got any songs/chants that they miss from the past?
Some of my favourites were;
My only sunshine (Leeds), My only sunshine (Leeds)
The chant 'Everywhere we go' followed by the traditional 'We are Leeds' (Although this still does get done every now and then)
There was also a clapping to a rythm thing that I can remember, I did try and type it but it doesnt work....
And finally, one that I would love to see re-hashed to include a certain Wigan starlet... The old 'This old man, he told me, Shaun Edwards has got VD'....
Any other suggestions? I know 'Keep right on to the end of the road' is a favourite with many of the older generation of fans.'"
"Loiners Give us a wave, Loiners Loiners Give us a wave" - Sang to the players upon their entry to the field, home and away and they always waved.
"From the green green grass of Headingley, to the heart of Sicily
We'll sing sing sing for the Loiners, until we win the Rugby League
Ta-ra with Bradford Northern
Ta-ra with Trinity
We'll sing sing sing for the Loiners, until we win the Rugby League...
The Loiners - clap clap clap
The Loiners - clap clap clap"
"Dougie Laughton's Barmy Army (sang by one side of the crowd)
Dougie Laughton's Barmy Army (repeated by the other side)
and repeated continously, on some occasions even sang for 10 minutes.
"I sang for the Loiners when the skies turned black,
it's hard to sing with a heifer (?) on your back,
they buried my body and i thought i'd gone,
But i am a Loiner and still sang on..
Sing, Sing, Wherever you may be,
We are the Leeds RLFC,
and we'll lead you all whever you may be,
We'll lead you all to Wem-ber-lee"
