At the risk of defending someone who may turn in to biggest monster this country's pensioners have ever seen, it doesn't take much to break the hip of an 80 plus year old, many of them do it themselves by doing nothing more than falling off a low bed.

Reading it, It says several people and he was arrested for assualt, It does not say he assualted the lady, Perhaps she was being robbed by someone, he came out and battered the robber, It simply does not say, I seriously doubt that he would have attacked a old lady, he will have come to the rescue i am pretty sure.
