| Quote World of Redboy="World of Redboy"The problem with this enquiry is 99.99% of the population don't give a toss about it. In a country going through recession, large unemployment etc they have more important things to worry about. You only needed the stuff about the News of the World to know that new guidelines needed to be drawn up, the rest of it is a waste of taxpayers money. Half of these so called celebrity's are glad of the money and publicity they are getting.'"
Mmm a good time to hide bad news hey? The best disinfectant is sunlight my friend.
The press needs a root and branch reform, they have been allowed to get away with stunts like this for far too long.

I don't disagree about the reform and certain people being prosecuted, but after what has been revealed just by the goings on in the NoW, what else is the rest of the inquiry going to uncover that could be worse than what the Now were doing?

I would imagine the scope and depth of press activities and also the involvement of other agencies such as the police, other civil servants and politicians.
I see no reason to introduce draconian privacy laws, such as the French but I would like to see an independent press complaints commission that does have some teeth, as opposed to the cosy, old-boys club that currently exists. I would also like to see the existing laws (new ones are totally unnecessary) used with some vigour.

Private investigator Glenn Mulcaire has lost his appeal against two court orders that may force him to reveal who ordered him to hack phones.
A High Court panel heard the appeal at the Royal Courts of Justice in November but had reserved its judgement.
Mulcaire had appealed to try to avoid having to answer questions in civil proceedings that could incriminate him.
he is asking the Supreme Court for permission to appeal anyway, and has to do so by 6 feb. if he fails, he could be obliged to reveal some very interesting details.

| I wonder whether being compelled to name names might leave Mulcaire open to being sued for breach of any confidentiality agreement he may have signed in order to get his legal fees paid?

There's an intriguing question.
I would have thought that a court order would take precedence over any contractual agreement and render it void.

I thought his legal fees were only in respect of any criminal proceedings against him. This seems to centre around civil proceedings
