| Quote Cronus="Cronus"As I said, SENSIBLE.
No-one answered earlier - so tell me, can you think of any of these live debates in which someone has delivered a strong and glowing performance, stood head & shoulders above the rest and made you change your mind or indeed your vote?
Nope, they're just full of repetitive soundbites, and (as a caller on JV has just said), bad manners and rudeness. No-one ever looks good. The only swing moment that can happen is a car crash moment. Perhaps if they ever talked like human beings they might be more worthwhile, but they're all trained by media advisers, they all have the same catchphrases, deliver the same evasive answers and use the same body language and hand gestures. A pet hate of mine (started by Blair) is the pointing without a finger - knuckle pointing - to look less aggressive.
'"
Therefore, the answer would be to decline the invitation to attend, rather than saying yes and then sending your dad to cover for you ?
It was hilarious.
The Gove & Stanley double act was all staged to make it appear like something else had happened, they would both be better placed "in the jungle".
Stanley's prominence was all timed to coincide with his son running for leader and tbf, it worked rather well but, this just looked like playground stuff and crying about the relevance of these debates is no good, after your man has been ridiculed, they should have said a very firm NO when the invites went out. Instead, Boris IS running scared and probably with good reason.
I mentioned in a previous post about the glee that the Tories had when pointing out Corbyn's discomfort but, their man is just Frit.

We all know the right wing project snowflake onto everyone to make up for their own bed wetting. Just look at the state of the Tories bellyaching about Channel 4 replacing their leader with an ice sculpture. Johnson has even sent his Daddy in to bat for him.

From what I've seen and heard of Gove this last couple of weeks, he seriously needs to lay off the whisky and cocaine.

| Johnson was woeful on Marr today and it's east to see why he is running scared of Andrew Neil, indeed, he pretty much said that Marr was the only Andrew that would be interviewing him for the BBC.
From blaming Labour for the release of the London Bridge attacker and for the 10 years of austerity, this guy is a buffoon of the highest order.
All that he wanted to do was repeat his rehed soundbites and absolve himself and the Tories of anything that has taken place over the past 10 years.
It's a crying shame that there is so little choice in the election but, anyone but Johnson, PLEASE

| He can’t even lie convincingly a bit like his mentor Trump. I am beginning to doubt he was in the government for the last nine years, I presume it was a doppelgänger.
In the last week articles have been found where he has criticised single mothers and the working class let alone Muslims but these apparently have been taken out of context despite the full articles being available to disprove it.
We now know that his tweets this morning justifying that it was the fault of others that the terrorist was out were in fact copied and changed from an account which actually tasted the reverse. When you think he cannot go lower he does.

This is the new line of denial in politics. Just say it was taken out of context and hopefully nobody will notice you're trying to gloss over a clanger. Unfortunately, plenty don't notice, and they just parrot the same 'taken out of context' line in a desperate/stupid attempt to defend the indefensible.

It is a rare and strange example of a governing party running against its own record.
So we have New Old Labour vs... Blue UKIP?

| You wouldn’t consider a Blair government to be leftist. I think we will see more lies the nearer we get to Election Day especially if he thinks he won’t get a majority.
I expect the right wing press to also get more desperate with wild stories based on little or no evidence much like Johnson’s MI5 statement today.

In 2 weeks, Diane Abbott could be Home Secretary, in charge of immigration & passports, drugs policy, crime, the fire service, counter-terrorism and the police service. The woman who, incidentally, said of the IRA cause, "every defeat of the British state is a victory for all of us".
In 1989 she supported an early day motion calling for "the abolition of conspiratorial groups like MI5 and Special Branch which are not accountable to the British people".
In 2015 the Socialist Campaign for a Labour Victory website issued a statement of demands including "disband MI5". John McDonnell is a signatory to their cause.
So there is anti-MI5 form at the very top of Labour. Of course they've both changed their minds since then and McDonnell signed it "in error".

| Ah the politics of fear, but who is currently trying to forget the ten years he was in the government. Why if he thought early release was such a bad idea did he not include it in the Conservatives manifesto or do you think he is just trying to take advantage of the current bad situation despite the father asking for it not to become an excuse for draconian action.

Politics of fear? Indisputable facts reflecting the genuine views of Labour leadership. I've said it many times, you're seeing 'lite' Corbyn/McDonnell/Abbott while they're in positions of power to make them more palatable to the general public. If they ever achieved a decent majority their real views would soon be inflicted on us all.
Anyway, early release was already changed in 2012 from Labour's Extended Sentence law which granted and automatic, no-parole review release after half the term, to consideration for release by the parole board after two thirds of term. I'm not sure how enforcing the sentences of convicted criminals could be considered 'draconian'. I would say the current position is rather lenient, if anything.
The responsibility for Khan's release seems to lie with both the Labour-introduced law, and the conclusions and outcome of the appeal, headed by Justice Leveson. However - I don't personally see 'blame' lying anywhere, it was just a sorry conspiracy of events. Although I never agreed with it, I can see why Labour introduced the change at the time, though with the benefit of hindsight it was a mistake.
